Upcoming Events in 2017

  •  April 30, (Sunday) noon to 4 p.m.
    International Folk Fair
Davies Center, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.  Booths and exhibits, performances, and lectures. Even food samples. The theme for this year’s fair is MUSIC. Mari Carlson, Ager Association member and currently instructor for our Beginning Norwegian class, is also a violinist in the Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra. Carlson will play some folk tunes and other music in the opening event on Sunday from noon until about 12:20, in the Cabin on the main floor. Upstairs, the Ager Association will share space with the Sons of Norway and Norden Folk. You’ll find some interesting exhibits (SON will probably be selling an array of baked goods). And you can stop at the Ager Association table to take our Nordic culture quiz and test your trivial knowledge of some things Scandinavian. So come and have some fun at the Fair. Support the Ager Association and the Fair with your attendance. You’ll get a cup of coffee at the Ager booth.
  • May 17, 2017 (Wednesday)
    Syttened Mai Celebration
The Ager Association, Norden Folk, and Sons of Norway announce the 2017 celebration of
Syttende Mai. The social hour, dinner, and program will start at 5:30 on Wednesday, May 17, at the Best Western Plus (the same location as last year). Put this event on your calendar. We’re going to have an enjoyable, entertaining evening out. Information about tickets will soon be forthcoming.

Program:  Viktoria Borgessen (Marilyn McGriff) will present an entertaining program of music and comedy. While playing Scandinavian folk tunes on her nyckelharpa and relating the history and mechanics of the instrument, she may occasionally lapse into telling stories and a few jokes. Any similarity to the late Danish performer, Victor Borge, is purely intentional.
